Monster Saga; The fall of the heros of elgyria - "Critics r8 8/8, m8 "

Post by Dafty on Thu Sep 18, 2014 5:23 pm

Essentially an in brief without 50 thousand paragraphs of lore that we'll only use once; there are way, way to many mortal race people in the world. Way to many. On top of that, way to many super strong (level 80 or above) heros have appeared in all the races. So, as a test, the Gods of Elgyria have decided to back off and see how strong mortals really are. They still answer prayers and send mortals magic, but they aren't flitting about the mortal realm physically-there doing stuff.

Elgyria is composed of four worlds all stacked on top of each other.

4th and highest world - The Floating lands - the location where the gods physically reside. No contact with the other three worlds.

3rd world - The land of mortality - 7 large continents and several seas and inland seas, its geography roughly resembles earth's and it is about the year 1300 AD for most races.

2nd world - The underdark - All caves that go down below a certain amount of distance connect to a single giant cave system called the Underdark. Seas of lava are common and it has 'continents' of a sort floating around in the lava oceans. Sealed from the first and lowest world by a barrier of bedrock and deathstone. Water pours in from above in some areas, so theres plenty of food and drink, and enough life that it has a self-sustaining ecosystem.

1st world and lowest - The land of the dead - Very similar to underdark, but worse and shittier in every way. There are enough holes in the bedrock / deathstone barrier that travel up to other worlds is possible, but it doesn't happen very often. The land of the dead is another single-huge-cave, but it is dark, dank, and cold, with seas of icy tears and blood that seeps down from the worlds above, the blood falling in such a way that it resembles rain.

-1th world, inside the first, lowest world - Naest, the land of torture. A gruesome hell with no contact to the other worlds, nor any way in or out. Deities must consciously choose to send a soul here, and it is never an accident.

Can your monstrous civ rise to the challenge and seize the opportunity?

Races you choose are subject to approval, and must be from the following link.

http://www.dotd.com/mm/MM00000.htm

If you wish to be a variant-race that is set up for a specific climate (such as a desert goblin instead of a normal goblin), this will be permitted but I will set certain stats based on your fluff, so write good fluff for good stats.

Over the centuries it spent haunting the countless paths in the underdark it had many names. The Stonemelter, huge fag, Green Flame of Duhn and countless others. Some say it is a Spirit, a lost soul that is missing something of great value and thus roams through the underdark in search of it's lost treasure, others say that it was once a living flame, bound into a suit of armor by ancient powerful magic and that the ages of being trapped inside the coffin that the armor has become made it go mad. There are countless theories and noone is able to tell which ones are true and which ones are merely made up to scare travellers and prevent them from digging deeper into the underdark. Many have tried to snuff the flame, but all that was recovered of them were charred corpses, their armors melted to them, their faces twisted in a last scream of agony. And thus life in the underdark continues, rumors spread, the flame burns on and if the pathway ahead of you begins to shine in a green light.. well then you better run.

Sir Oscar, Knight Unknown. Cursed to wander these lands endlessly, never given the peace of death no matter how many times he gets struck down.

A long time ago, Oscar was a proud knight, serving under a noble king. He had just recently been knighted, not yet having proven himself on the field of battle. His luster for glory, his exuberance... He was truly jolly. Of course, he could not lounge about the barracks forever, and soon the king had decided on a mission for him, to prove his worth.

He was to bring with him a band of 5 of his brothers in arms, and lead them to retrieve something truly sacred that had been lost. He had been sent to reclaim what was the king's greatest item, the thing that granted him his lordship over all. He had been sent to retrieve the Lordvessel. The very essence of his ruler's magnificence. It had been stolen by a necromancer, Manimarco, and without it, his kings power was fading, ever slowly. Without this artifact of a bygone age, he would soon be nothing but a figurehead. So, he sent 6 of his trusted order of knights to retrieve it.

The necromancer Manimarco was cunning, however, leaving a near-endless amount of traps in his wake. Without fail, right before they were to close in on him, some dastardly device would drop a spell on their group. Something to slow them down for just long enough for him to make his escape. It never failed, as the knights, noble as they may have been, were not magicians.

Eventually, the people of the raggard band began falling. First came Sir Lautre, who was slain by a deviously disguised endless pit that he had walked straight on to. After him, Sir Petrus, who was slain by a spear of lightning cleaving a hole into his chest. His armor had provided no protection. Sir Allon, the noblest of the group, was fooled by a fell mimic, who had taken the from of a bawling girl. When he moved to help the poor woman, it sprung to life and devoured him.

Yes, his band was falling, one by one, and victory ever eluded the brave Sir Oscar. But he did not fret, for he believe that as long as one of them stood, the necromancer Manimarco would be slain and the Lordvessel returned to its rightful owner. Even as both Sir Alyan and Sir Grend were slain at once by a massive blade made of pure magic, leaving poor Sir Oscar alone... He did not fret.

Perhaps he should have. The necromancer was well aware that only one remained, and this time did not bother to leave any delaying traps, or summoned monsters to bother him. It was a long, soundless walk as Oscar made his way to the Wizard's chamber, his metal armor noisily clinking about.

The wizard challenged him. Said that should Sir Oscar be able to best him in a fight, he would allow the Lordvessel back into the King's care.

Oscar, foolishly, agreed to the snake's terms.

Instantly, he was beset by all manner of fell beast, only surviving due to his skill with a blade and iron will. Even that, however, did not prepare him for what had happened next. The wizard, growing bored of seeing the knight fight off his summoned creatures, had tossed a magical missile right into Oscar's back, knocking the brave and noble knight to his knees. His sword and shield clattered to the floor, as Oscar hit the ground, defeated.

The necromancer completed his horrid spell, draining the Lordvessel completely of its power and ascending as a lich. The kingdom Oscar knew loyalty to was razed to the ground not 10 years after. Oscar had truly, truly failed. And even the gods agreed. For they had cursed him. He was unable to die, unable to feel that sweet release, to know that it was finally over, that he would never have to swing his sword again. They had given him the curse of undeath, bringing him back to life every time he dies, so as to never allow him rest from his sins.

For many years, he wandered, desperately searching for some way to break this curse. But alas, it seems the only possible way was to slay the gods themselves, a thing only done in myth...

But for Oscar, he had as much time as he needed.

He could throw himself at anything, die, and come back to throw himself at it again.

His mind, weak as it was from thousands of deaths, gripped this and held it dear.

For it was an anchor.

Something to keep him sane, even in these trying times.

"You're kidding me, right? ANOTHER game of elemental tag? Seriously, Poliwalis, this is like the 12th game in a row!" exclaimed Io.
"Look, Ghile, we're bored. No one down in the mortal realm wants anything to do with us. Nobody wants any wishes, they all have what they want!" shouted back Poliwalis.
"You know what, you guys are more worthless than a bag of ogre brains. I'll show you shits what it means to have fun by going down there myself!"

With that, Io, the fledgling Marid genie, summoned some water currents to the "human-world" portals. Just as he was about to enter the portal, a twinge of doubt pushed him to look back at the other genies. They were idiotically slapping each other with conjured t-rex dongs.
"Worth it." Io muttered, as he jumped into the portal.

When the teleportation was over with, Io found himself at the bottom of a dingy looking well.
"Damn haywire teleporters, always screwing up destinations..." Io grumbled, as he climbed up the rope connected to the well bucket. Just as he reached the top, a dingy looking man peered into the well.
"By the gods!" he exclaimed, "A true genie! An actual genie!"
"Cool it," Io said, creating a plume of fog within his palms.
As the farmer ran away for help, Io stood laughing his ass off. But then he stopped himself.
"Wow...I haven't laughed in decades!"
The laughing started again.
"This is going to be great!"

There are alot of scum and villainy within the Underdark. There really are.
Creatures of unimaginable horror, creepy hostile species and infamous criminals lurk within the caves of the 2nd world and, if they can talk, are willing enough to call it their home.

Among the shit and scum that trudges around down there, there is one species that is rarely ever seen; and that is because they are smart as hell.

The Grell.

Giant floating brains with beaks and tentacles-- by the gods that is horrifying.

No one knows where the Grell came from-- their arrival spelled doom for any of the surrounding species that inhabited their target zone. They are carnivorous bastards that float around like balloons and drop right on top of their prey, stinging it with their venom-laced tentacles and cracking right through that armor with their tough beaks.

Now, that is all fine and dandy, because you assume that they are just dumb animals-- dangerous, sure, but any good huntsman knows how to peg a giant floating brain with a good arrow.

Except you don't realize-- the motherfuckers can -think-

Their brains are the size of your torso, what the fuck did you expect? They don't need to hunt as much as they used to, so they devoted their time to looking at that stick and forming complex relationships with their fellow Grell. A powerful Grell Patriarch (a giant grell that has sacrificed its ability to move to instead obtain supreme intelligence and control the lesser Grell) rose to become the first Grell Patriarch, the first sentient grell, and the founder of the very first Grell Hive. This patriarch would rise to be called "The Precursor" by many of today's Grell.

They said it was a terrifying increase in intelligence-- advanced communication, strategic hunting, logistics, toolmaking, construction, and sooner or later complete and utter sentience. The Grell were soon categorized by the few scientists that knew about them as an intelligent, sentient race. Eventually, The Precursor died and his hive fell from anarchy.

Lets skip a couple hundred years ahead an-- oh, look at that; we are at the present. The Grell are currently divided into many separate hives and swarms, living a pleasant life of tribalism. But, do you think they would devour all of the Underdark if they were to unite under one mind once more? That is were our story begins, the possible rise of the New Grell Swarm.

There was once happiness among those that resided in the mountains of Heton under the watchful gaze of the Elder Dragons. Dragonkin walked freely in the streets of massive cities built into the open-air while others flew through the air on powerful and strong wings to deliver messages. The dragons who sired us smiled on our civilization as we provided the best for them that we could and were rewarded with their presence among our kind. We flourished and there were even talks of the establishment of another city in the plains that surrounded our mountain chain in search of more potent farming land. That is when they struck. Foul beings of divine magic and sickening arcane power flew down from the clouds to engage us in their full fury on one morning. Thousands of our kind perished under their assault as they carved out entire sides of the mountain with one strike of their mighty weapons and great strength. We did not know why they came but the dragons did, they sent us away. We fled from the city under their orders even as they gave themselves so that we could live, battling with the creatures who were seemingly trying to find them anyway. They fought bravely in the air, blasting the foul monsters with breath after breath of fire. They fought for us. They lost. We saw their massive bodies hit the ground while some were outright turned into ash mid-air by the creature's foul light. We ran in fear even as our fathers and mothers died so that we could live, a birthright of death and destruction followed in our wake.

We wandered for a longer time than history could remember in our own minds but we always remembered what the Great Dragons gave to us. Religions sprang up within these long years in dedication to the Great Dragons that once guarded us with the knowledge that they would one day rise again. They would come back from the grave and lead our people to the chosen land where we would grow in enough strength to fight back against the foul beings that once nearly destroyed us. We knew it in our hearts but some knew more than that, some of our kind were blessed with the Great Dragon's gifts. These chosen were stronger, faster, smarter, and more magically adept than any of those that we had seen before or even heard of except the dragons themselves. The chosen led us in our worship of the Great Dragon and started to become the leaders of the clan as custom dictated from that point on. Life went on and soon, we found a home in another mountain range far from our previous homeland. We once more built a city on the mountain with varying levels as one climbed it, some at the base and upwards. The final building added to our city before the known date was the painted Cathedral at the peak of the mountain where the Chosen currently leads in both stewardship and worship. Those blessed with wings take the skys to joy as those without continue to improve on our home and add more to it's inner workings. Iron tools and even some steel began to take shape in our homes as some limited farms sprang up around the base of the mountain. Time would tell if the Great Dragon would eventually return and if the city would remain untouched.

Notes:
The breath attack is fire-based cause mah orginality
Some of the Dragonkin are born with wings but most are not.
The leader of the nation is one of the "Chosen" who has been blessed the Great Dragon and both leads the nation, as well as the church.

Ah the world is a lovely place to live. The grand forests, the peerless plains, the majestic seas, the bejewelled caverns, the mystical icy glaciers. All deserve to preserved. All deserve to be tended to. That is our lot in life and one we take take to gladly.

Only our places of deep beauty are being threatened. Man, and dwarf and all like them are running rampant. They cut down the trees, they befoul the water, they destroy the earth. I say we must fight back. Not just retreat to preserve the places left but regrow what is lost. Place the metals and jewels in the earth. Reclaim the cities for the forests, let Man drown in waste and poison instead of the waters and the fish.

I am Thiosa, of Black Wood Forest. My place has always been underneath heavy boughs and dappled canopy, in shadowed glen and crystal clear streams. I have watched my world shrink as man and its heroes have spread and destroyed my very home. I looked for new places when the last tree stump was uprooted and found naught but the same for miles upon miles. What was once forest was now a city. What was once untamed wilderness was farmland, where all that grows is what man wills.

I have journeyed to my sisters, and found tale after tale of the same story. No, man and dwarf and all like him does not deserve this wonderful world. Like my beloved trees of Black Wood Forest I shall uproot them in turn.

Bonuses: Fire Touch, Immortality

Fire touch - unarmed attacks do fire damage, weaponry heats up gradually while being held and used.
Immortality - Your soul is connected to something extra-material and elemental. You are effectively immortal, though you can be killed by violence or magic.

Another fun happy time in the old underdark tonight, wandering the infinite hallways. They aren't -really- infinite, but the area's name is 'Infinite hallways'. Killing the occasional stupid little thing that tries to fight. Oh no! A thief tried to surprise attack! zero threat; dead in a single hit. A mage! again, zero threat; dead in a single hit.

But then you notice something you haven't seen in a long, long time. In one of the big junctions where numerous caves cross and make one big room, a tiny sliver of light streams down from above. Light isn't unknown to you, but its been thousands of years since you saw any that was sourced from a hole in the ceiling. You may be closer to the land of mortality than you thought.

A minor cult of kobolds has sprung up over the years, and you can feel them petitioning you for spells, as the clerics do each time they use spells. None of the clerics are much higher than level 2 or 3, so its a small annoying voice in the back of your mind. Your spheres are; Fire, Demons, and War, and you may only give them spells from those spheres of magic.

Bonuses
Undeath - You never stay dead for long
Knightly training - You know how to wield the heaviest armors, shields, and weapons.

Searching for Mani "the fanny" marco all these years was a seemingly meaningless task. If anyone in the world knew about the curse of undeath and how to break it, it would be Azgan the Arcane, a mummy lord of Nath-Rung'dor, the desert of dust. A bitterly lifeless landscape penetrated only by a few rivers in isolated areas, Nath-Rung'dor is no impediment to you, but would be a deadly danger to someone who had to eat or drink. Getting to Azgan's pyramid and waking him up, though, is an impediment to you. This night, a train of merchants and guards riding camels have made camp just over the next dune. Hiding in sand all day kept them from ever seeing you, but now that its night and time to get a move on, they're in the way, and from what has been said, they seem to be heading the same way you're heading, which means if you don't rid yourself of them, they'll bother you later.

Wish granting - You may grant three individual wishes to a single individual once every 25 rounds, waiting 25 rounds after each use for this to "recharge".
Elemental soul - Your soul is deeply connected to the waters, water magic can't harm you and has difficulty targeting you.

In this sleepy remote valley of Shinjar, the people live by farming and mostly live in two big cities. One on the plateau high above, one on the valley floor, far below. Waterfalls, trees, bushes, grass, a mountain river, its an idealic existence, and there are almost no monsters at all. Except Io of course. The reason for this becomes rapidly clear to Io. Situated around the walls of the castle-city high above on the plateau are huge artifact reloading trebuchets. Tread carefully, if they have that sort of thing they probably have compliments of men-at-arms and knights.

Fortunately the first person you come up on isn't a knight or a warrior, its a girl, drawing water from a river, wearing a piece of attire that resembles a sari, and her hair in a braid. Pointed ears. Possibly an elf or half-elf. She's busy with the river, so she didn't see you coming.

Bonuses
Natural levitation - You move by natural automatic levitation, therefore, any time you move unseen, it is considered a use of "sneak"
Psychopower - You are a psionicist, able to use mind powers. Over time you will develop between 4 and 7 powers, after which they are permanently in place and you don't get more, though they will get stronger. These powers are developed by what you do with your psychopower.

For all their smarts and powers, the grell were caught unprepared when a volcanic eruption high above caused an earthquake. The earthquake caused a fracture in the barrier between the underdark and the land of the dead, causing about 1/4th of the grell hive-lands to collapse straight down into the dark, cold abyss below. Unlike the underdark, which is a complicated maze of bullshit, the land of the dead was a single huge dim "room". The lands that collapsed didn't necessarily kill that many grell, but theres now a big hole in the floor. The very distant sounds of undead wandering about are heard from far below. Rumors and legends of the land of death have come to the grell, but no grell has ever actually physically left the underdark and gone there, so its unknown what it will be like. What is known is that a terrible smell is now emitting from the big hole, and a slow continuous flow of extremely cold wind is issuing from it too.

MrZavon wrote:There was once happiness among those that resided in the mountains of Heton under the watchful gaze of the Elder Dragons.

Bonuses
Cultish - The souls of dead dragons became a god being who watches over the members of the cult who keep the faith.
Draconic physiology - You have natural claws on both hands and feet, natural fire breath weapons, and some of you have wings which permit free-flight. Not to mention tough natural armor that is about as protective as scale mail.

As it has developed, your race wasn't the only group who was part of the dragon cult. The ancient human city of Tuthbayn was at one time part of the cult as well. But a meteor destroyed their farmlands and flooded the city to a permanent 5 foot lake surrounding the city and covering the ground inside it, though very numerous buildings still stand. The bones of dragons are here, preserved in huge amber statues, to be objects of veneration, the skeletons of dead humans clinging to scattered structures where they fled to try and survive the wave of water the meteor caused. None did. The city-swamp is considered cursed (though it isn't actually cursed), and the dragonkin are the first race that has dared to enter this forbidding, musty, wet, and filthy ruinous city of older times. The city is about 4 centuries old, so its buildings and such are far behind the times, but intact enough that parts of it are livable.

Stunning - Males have a very hard time attacking you, even after you attack them.
Natural mage - You may use druid spells as if you were level 8.

This can't continue. Doe's Run was once a beautiful land where deer from all over the nearby lands came to mate. Now it has been strip-lumbered to the ground, every single tree, even the treants that lived there, cut down and hauled away. The tracks of a huge artifact wagon lead northward, and judging from the footprints, about 50 people were in the work team, mostly males. 1 creature survived, a wise, ancient old owl.

Enough is enough and its time to act. Armed with a stonebirch stave and a leather armor attire set, companion'd only by the old owl. The moon rises above in the distance. Its time to act. Nevermind that the nature goddess told you explicitly that this is part of the plan. Nevermind that they told you you were to let the mortal races destroy themselves. I mean, they basically did this in front of you, they just didn't see you because you were hiding in the ground invisible.

Before mom and dad disappeared, they told me that the age of gods and men were soon at an end and that I would its harbinger. I didn't know what they meant at the time, but after they taught me all they could and left, I soon found out. The little people and their ships are so fun to play with~! Sometimes, I make the little men attack other people with their ships and then I get more, it's the best thing ever! Mom said I shouldn't play with my food, but I think she was just jealous that I have spikey things and she couldn't get into the villages like me. I only got a little cave full of them but I think they like their home so far, it's cozy! Dad told me that when I get of age, I should make my own home and protect it and all my playtoys, it's just that playing around with the villagers are so fun but I know he's right. Maybe I'll just make a big castle and go swimming super far and make a whole bunch more! Then, I won't be alone all the time and I can go wherever I want and always have servants! I wonder if I could make castles on the surface..

1. Slowly the ancient helmet turned towards the small stream of light that penetrated the all smothering darkness around it. Runes on the helmet, sigils of a Civilization that had long succumbed to chaos, burnt to ashes, all of their history, their language, erased forever. Nothing but the armor remained to tell of their craftsmanship and their understanding of magic, their time had long passed and by now even the civilizations that had been built upon their ruins had been forgotten. "How long?", it pondered in a language dead for ages, how long had it been since it had last been free. More cycles than it remembered, yet it was still trapped within the armor, none of the younger civilizations had brung forth a blacksmith capable enough to break the wretched curse. Slowly the fiery gaze lowered itself and went back to staring into the darkness of the Underdark's ancient halls. Centuries had passed since it had come here in search for the Phoenix Orb, a legend older than men or elves, a powerful artifact to restore the bearer's life upon death. If it was to hold the orb, perhaps if it was killed it could slip out of this wretched trap and once again the green flame would devour this world and all would kneel as civilizations turned to ashes and even the gods would bow to the Sea of Fire. But it digressed, it had been centuries and it had not even found as much as a notion of the Phoenix Orb, but to stop looking now was to admit defeat and in the great scheme of things a century wasn't even that long.

2. In a sudden movement the Green Flame slammed it's left fist into the brickwork, at first it splintered but then began to melt under the heat of the ancient flame. The runes on it's armor began to light up one by one and with a teeth grating notion however little hope it had that the armor would begin to show signs of weakness faded as pain gradually began to spread through it's energetic mind. The armor tried to prevent it from using it's powers but even the old High Mages had underestimated the Green Flame's power. As it's grip transcended planes the Bane of Karth finally reached out to an Imp, in a fluid motion it retracted it's hand from the molten stone an imp emerging from the gaping hole. Without much introduction it tossed the imp towards the hole in the ceiling, "Find out what's on the other side.", it demanded and tromped onwards in search of the phoenix stone.

3. Wesley Snipes quickly scurried through the lowly tunnels that led towards the Kobold settlement. Once, long ago it had been home to the dwarves but something had happened and most of the halls in this area had collapsed, leaving only small tunnels in the brickwork to small for the fat dwarves and most others that felt like exploring. Wesley quickly pressed past the statue of some old dwarven mistress, below the handshake between Snorgark Redbeard and Samson the Strong and quickly hurried past the upper half of one of the very few Elven statues they had found. He had seen it again, the Green Fire Demon in the armor. It would report to the elder immediately. Afterwards it still had some more work to do. The leader of the Hunters Terry Crews had said something about more pointy sticks, but Wesley wasn't all too sure, he would have to take inventory of everything they had in the settlement anyway. Count the Bolds, all sort of stuff. A busy day.

Bonuses: Fire Touch, Immortality

Fire touch - unarmed attacks do fire damage, weaponry heats up gradually while being held and used.
Immortality - Your soul is connected to something extra-material and elemental. You are effectively immortal, though you can be killed by violence or magic.

From the edge of his peripheral vision, Io spotted an odd sight. A girl, by her lonesome, near the river.
"Well, you don't see that very often in the forest. Hell, this might be interesting. Better than riding wild elk down the valley...maybe."
Io hatched a new prank. Melding his bodily form into the water, he would sneak up on the girl as she's busy. And then, when the girl's face was near the water...he would come up out of the water and shout "Boo!" It'll be hilarious! For Io at least.
Afterwards, Io would meld back into the river, and travel downstream to new adventures.

With Archimedes upon my shoulder we skulk after the get of mankind's folly. Each moment that passes is another with Doe's Run lying unavenged and forgotten by all. The deer who rut there shall become food for their tables, the rabbits that frolic already fill the worker's bodies.

As a first act as a Nymph without a place to protect destroying that which had destroyed my home is fitting.

And so I come across their camp as they settle for the night and I make my plans. I shall blind their sight with beauty, and destroy their footing with sand or ash. Then I shall walk into their midst and unleash rot and fungus. Those that do not succumb me and Archimedes shall lay to rest ourselves with talon and sturdy stave.

Let these men feed the earth in which they so callously destroy.

Cicilian the Disowned  pirat
Drow
2nd World

Ashevel the male drow approaches his leader as she stands at the balcony like mouth of their cave den. "Mistress the city its..."
"Burning. Yes I know" Cicilian says sipping from a glass of strong duergar ale. Grabbing another nearby flask handing it to her most loyal guard.
"But why?" Ashevel asks taking the beverage and down it in one gulp.
"The mistress pray to Lolth but none get answers, they assume the others are weak and are attacking in order to show they still have power. Enough to kill their rivals but not enough to defend their own homes though. They are panicked, they have lost their cool, and they are backed into a corner." Cicilian takes a big sip as she watches the home of the Head Matron burst into flame "Isn't it wonderful? Everything we've been trying to do for 250 years and the gods do it for us. And I was beginning to lose hope."
"Milady?" Her confused guard says confused.
"Sometimes the best sign is the sign not given" Cicilian says readjusting the eye-patch over her scared eye and brushing her hand over the brand of Correlon on her face, marking her to her life as a rat in drow society due to her failure in taking an elven city.
"We strike in the morning then?" Ashevel asks after a minute of silence.
"Yes but for now lets just watch the fireworks" The drow says taking another drink of her oh so potent beer.

When Graxis was young he saw from afar the seat of a human empire, a capitol and he was awed, but more than that he was jealous, jealous of humanities prosperity and jealous of their success, how could a race weaker than the bugbears be so much greater? It infuriated him to no end and he swore that one day he would create topple their empire and subjugate all of humanity, so he trained, he trained his mind and he trained his body, he would observe from afar as humanity waged great wars so that he could learn of it, he would battle the strongest he could find to improve himself and he never spent even a single day resting, when the time to choose a new chieftain had come none dared to challenge the might of Graxis for he was to them as they were to the goblins, indomitable, standing an impressive 9’ feet in height, with strength and skill that they could only dream of he was the apex of the Bugbears, and they knew this. The legend of Graxis had begun.

Narrowly evading the merchants and their guards and killing a camel who spit in your face like a fucking asshole, you make your way to the giant, basalt pyramid that Azgan the arcane "lives" in.

Unfortunately there is a minor issue. The huge iron door which must be opened to enter the pyramid is a riddle door, which means it can only be opened by solving the riddle inscribed on it.

The riddle reads as follows.

"I cannot be heard, cannot be seen, cannot be smelt, cannot be felt, end life and laughter. What am I?"

For a desert person, this would be impossibly hard, but for you, its easy, The answer is "The dark". The door slides open, a whoosh of foul air stenching its way out.

Even oscar feels a shiver of fear. Something deep, dark, and ancient lies beyond. Something tremendously powerful, far more powerful and far older than Oscar.

Amphibious - You are able to travel over both land and water, though you have difficulty in hot terrain like deserts or volcano fields.

Whales are being herded by sea-elves not far from your cave. You can hear their song and the occasional conch horn being blown.

You also had a dream. In the dream, you created a huge wave that destroyed a golden palace, then a giant ball of fire came and dried it all out. You turned into a statue and fell apart. Weird dream. Its meaning is not clear to you.

1. A sudden thought occurs to you. Why would something like the phoenix orb be in the underdark? Isn't a phoenix some sort of good aligned fire creature? This triggers a vague memory of a place where phoenixes congregate called the Vale of Deadly fire. Its somewhere in the surface world.

2. Lending its senses to its master, the Imp flies around outside, revealing a forest, large mountains, a lake, a single huge tree thats hundreds of times bigger than the other trees, and a distant huge city.

3. 13 bolds, 26 bold swords, 15 days worth of food, 14 days worth of water, 15 beds, 17 rooms, 15 dwarf statues, 3 elf statues, 2 forges, 1 glassmaker's workshop, 1 soaper's workshop, and two feast halls.

You scared her alright. Scared her so much she threw the urn, which broke on your head, and ran away screaming. When you regather your senses, you are further down the river and much closer to a village, being pulled out by several people who believe you are either a dead body or someone who is drowning. Its not until you sputter awake and spew water out your mouth that they realize just who and what you are. One of the greedy mortals grabs your amulet and tears it off. "I demand a wish!

Tiamat smiled wearily as his eyes reached the city of Tuthbayn after so long away from a home to call their own. The thought that it was broken down, desolate, and possibly cursed didn't even cross his mind as he lifted up into the air among with the other War-Priests of the Great Dragon surrounding him. They had found a home. They had come here looking for allies among the other true worshippers of the Dragon but they had instead found a place to settle. This must be destiny, these humans must have taken the Great Dragon's name in vain and they must have been smited down because of it. It was only natural for more devout worshippers to take their place though he was a bit anxious about what may await them. Looking down from his position in the sky, his eyes gazed over those that had escaped from the wrath of the foul ones, the ones who had followed him into the great beyond. These were his people and he saw them truly among the wagons from the smallest of children to the largest of warriors. These were his people. "I am glad that you think that way." A grimace would find his way onto his face as a piercing pain followed the words in his mind. He had not yet grown accustomed to the voice of his god and it was always a trouble but he shelved it for another day. There were many things to be done to insure the survival of their race. Warriors had to scout through the city for enemies and for a safe place to sleep. Citizens had to repair homes in the safe locations as well as build defenses in the event of a attack. He had to keep the morale up through all of this. It was going to be a long day. "

Edit: I am leaving btw, sorry.

Warlord - You are roughly level 5 fighter already.

The land the bugbears have traditionally lived in, the valley of the steaming river, is dying. Something is badly wrong with it. Plants, animals, all are slowly losing their color, withering, and becoming ash. Its a slow process and the danger isn't immediate, but its obvious to the senses that something is badly wrong. Over the mountains it's said that a giant pyramid of black stone lays near the edge of the desert of dust. You don't know why, but it feels like this has something to do with the problem. In addition, to the north and west, the dwarves are working away on expanding their kingdoms, and to the south the great forest of the elves remains unconquered.

This is Bob. Bob is a Blob. Bob is a Very Hungry Blob. He is made of slime, and likes to eat, a lot! He has many arms, sometimes he splits himself into smaller bobs!

One time Bob dreamed ate a house, and he was still hungry. Then Bob ate a city, and he was still hungry. Then Bob ate a planet, and he was still hungry.

Bob became very Big, but something happened. Now bob is small again.

But Bob is very, very hungry.

Oscar laughs.

How could he not? He was walking directly into what would undoubtedly end in his death. A lesser man would have run, wouldn't have come in the first place... But Oscar... Oscar is desperate. He will die as many times as it takes to break this curse and take his revenge upon the gods. He swears upon it every time he stops to rest, and he SHALL make it so.

Oscar takes a few tense steps in, his armor clinking noisily. He's holding his sword incredibly tightly, nervously. No matter how many times you die... It isn't a pleasant feeling. Feeling yourself fade into black, that one moment... That one small moment of peace, before you get jerked back to reality, back where you last sat down...

You don't die as many time as Oscar without growing melancholy. But even a truly sad being like him has to have some fire left... Some little spark of hope, to keep him from going completely mad. For Oscar, this hope is that one day, he'll be allowed to finally feel the sweet, sweet release of dying... and not reviving.

But no matter. Oscar walks, careful to avoid stepping upon any traps, deep into the darkness in front of him. There were answers here. He knew it. This... mummy, this mummy had to know something of the curse afflicting him. He had traveled too far to NOT get some clues. If he didn't... Oscar may hollow then and there. Such a thing would devastate him...

Oscar keeps his sword close and shield closer as he makes his way through the hallway.

Casting cloudkill instantly killed 15 of them in a poison fungus gas cloud.

Stunned by your beauty, the attackers hesitated for a moment. That proved fatal, as the swooping owl managed to rip both the eyes out of one of the ranged attackers, and the stonebirch stave was harder than most metals, so broke bones with every strike. A dangerous fire sword was used against you, but the attacker missed both times because Archimedes kept sweeping into the attacker's face.

The burning wood smokes and pops as the last person falls to the ground, blubbering and blood coming out of his mouth as his skull crushed in.

There is something sitting in the fire. It is not food or drink or any piece of cookware, but it looks metal.

Graxis saw the danger around him, and he saw the inevitable battles to come, and he couldn't help but smile, this was an opportunity a chance to unite the Bugbears, Hobgoblins and Goblins underneath him, to push out of their ancestral lands and to begin down the path to his ambition, he shall begin immediately.

1-2. Graxis shall begin training his own tribe immediately, It was time that revealed to his brethren the fruit of his study, formations and tactics designed to compliment the bugbears, created and thought out through years of observation and the study of actual battles, Graxis will put his all into hammering these into his tribe, already deadly Graxis could not help but imagine how the Bugbears shall preform with tactics.

3. Also at the end of every day Graxis shall continue to improve himself, he must be the primarch of his people, something to aspire to, to envy and fear.

1-2. Legend states that it was buried deep beneath the earth. But what did the young races know? Only few races were truly reliable and as it would happen the oldest trees were a part of them. Of course the Green Flame was not on the best conditions when it came to trees as they rarely preferred the company of living flames for reasons self evident. With little effort the green flames that were dancing along the armer subsided, leaking back into the armor where they united in a concentrated core of Green Fire. With the hands pointing towards the surface it was standing on the Flame prepared itself as walls of fire shot from it's hands propelling it towards the small opening in the ceiling. Easily it held onto the opening, pulling itself through into the late midday sun, that cought itself on the ancient runes upon the Beings' armor. It would find the tree and talk to it, being on the surface like this was dangerous. After so many years spent in the Underdark it would have to get used to the surroundings first, what sort of creatures roamed the surface these days anyway? Cautiously the Hidden Flame continued to tread through the forest, searching for the giant tree.

3. Bruce Willis patted Wesley Snipes on the back, "You did good work.", he proclaimed in his crude voice. Apprently they had already lain some new eggs and most of the pack or however you'd like to call it was busy setting up additional beds as the hunters were scavenging the tunnels for anything edible. They had already found an underground lake some time back that had been gathering, apparently somewhere a dam had broken and thus a little lake had formed. Some bolds like Kanye West claimed that there was live in them, but others like Barrack Obama said that it would be highly unlikely since it wasn't even natural and stuff.

I ask the raging flames to quieten and quench and I look closely upon the object that attracted my attention. I then cool it further with clean and clear water.

Once that is done I look sadly upon my work. It was a just thing I did. Life for life. Death for death. And yet I find no glee in it. My pride was in maintaining the Black Wood, and it is gone. Still from death comes life and the ash rich soil will nourish many lives to come. I call upon the seeds on the wind and the waiting brush and trees whose own seed sleeps deep within the earth. I ask them to grow and flourish for the next year.

Then I take Archimedes, and whatever I can salvage from the wreck and I move on to a quiet place closest to my forest that I can manage to think. I have a future to plan. And my vengeance is not yet done. The workers only did the deed. Those who ordered it yet live.

People who are there who attempt to do anything, at all, but run away immediately, get pretty much instant-killed by the flying orbs deadly beams. Some burst into flames, some collapse into ash, others petrify, and a few are simply gone suddenly, huge scorch marks in the ground where they were.

1-3:Cicilian looks at the beholders, then back at her empty flask, then back at the beholders making an audible sigh of anger at this event. "Get the troops moving Asheval, looks like we never get a day off."
"Yes mam" Asheval says with a salute as he scurries to gather the rebels and mercs living in the stone cave with them.
Cicilian sighs again "Its gonna be a long night"

Attack the beholders.

After sweeping through the mercenaries with beams o death and killing two rows of them, the battle is quickly brought to a halt when you recognize one of the beholders as an old ally named Oztimbor the Artifacter. Oztimbor is an elder orb, which means his lifespan is hundreds of years longer than a normal beholder's lifespan. After a tense moment, the hostility ceases as the other two beholders obey the venerably old Oztimbor. Oztimbor tells you that dwarves have been deep-mining for mythril in the area and that they thought the fire was a signal that dwarves were attacking. Oztimbor's alliance is to you, personally, not drow in general. The main difference that you've seen between an elder orb and a more general beholder type is that elder orb's eyes cast sorcery spells, not mage spells, which means Oztimbor's gaze weapons are many THOUSANDS of times stronger than a normal beholders.

Oztimbor asks you about the recent civil strife between the drow and what it means. He says that he can't get involved with it unless the faction you're warring against attacks him first, but that he still remembers the day you saved his life from a hydra by stabbing the many-headed aquatic dragon in the heart with a dagger of annihilation, the dagger turning into an energy field that dissolved the hydra for an instant-kill.

They are panicked, they have lost their cool, and they are backed into a corner." And I was beginning to lose hope."

1-2. It doesn't take long at all for the bugbears to learn formation movement, and the goblin and kobold slaves learn it by being whipped into shape rather literally. Unfortunately, you are suffering a dearth of supplies, and all you can afford to outfit your army with is padded leather jerkins, stout wooden clubs, and of course the whips. Even this is however a very significant improvement, as the armor and weaponry is standardized and all the soldiers have the same weaponry. The kobolds and goblins are similar to peasants, and though they can fight, they are mostly menials who do things like carry backpacks of supplies, forage, chop down trees to burn wood, etc. As in the original warcraft game, Kobolds and Goblins may be sent to mine or chop wood as stated, but may also be sent to construct buildings. Kobolds construct different buildings than goblins. You now have a formal division of military and labor force as well.

3. You are able to do three more pushups, two more situps, and three more chin-ups than you could before, but the improvement otherwise is very minimal. Reason: insufficient role for much improvement.

You fail to sneak in, but surprisingly, since you're undead, you don't trip any of the magic traps, easily walking by the set of four cyclops mummies that would have awakened to attack an intruder, and through the hallway of magic statues that would have probably shot arcs from their eyes, since they are all facing each other. Finally the Red light of the underworld, which is reflected through a slowly rotating crystal, is simply light to you and does not harm you, though it feels strange for it to hit you. It feels... peaceful.

On a high dais in a room covered with carvings, statuary, and inscriptions, all of which seem magical, sits a large ornate golden and platinum casket. As you near it, it sloooooowly opens creakily as a hand so old it looks like petrified leather covered in semi-petrified rags slips out to grip the edge of the casket. As the casket opens, more and more darkness flows out as visible black smoke that kills light. The creeeeaky mummy sloooooowly climbs out, its eyes glowing stark reddish, black smoke continuously emitting from its body pretty much everywhere, its body hardly more than an ancient skeleton, all the flesh shrunk-tight on the bones and resembling petrified and semipetrified scraps of leather, the wrappings yellow and green with age, deadly dust sprinkling from the mummy's movements. Being anywhere NEAR this mummy would seriously, SERIOUSLY endanger a mortal, and even a completely unarmed hit would do severe harm to a mortal.

"In the trance that is my sleep, I saw you arrive, Oscar, and dreamed what you would ask of me. What would you give for my answer, for I do nothing for free."

The mummies voice issues from... somewhere. It is more in your mind than your ears.

A feeling of guidance outside tiamat's body leads him to a certain area where he finds a statue of a huge hydra, all its heads clustered around a dais in the room. Several other statues of dragons are here. Sitting on the dais is a sword covered in amber totally. It is dragon bone weapon. Something ancient.... powerful.... it has some sort of reaction to tiamat and energy transfers from it to him without harming him. The vision is as follows.

>Fafnir the deadly, first dragon of all, biggest and most powerful dragon that ever lived, fighting several armies at once in a volcano field. Fafnir breathes jets of fire, black poison smoke, shoots lightning from its eyes, and its stride is 2481 feet long. Fafnir has 24 heads and 8 tails, with four wings.
>Fafnir slain
>Heads and necks escape the body and grow to become the primogens, the direct offspring of Fafnir and the first generation of dragons.
>Anunku, one of the first leaders of the dragonkin, finds the body generations later.
>Montage of forges making weapons from Fafnir's body.

The vision ends with tiamat discovering that all the amber shattering off. He found the Dragonbone sword of Fafnir the deadly, a two handed great sword made of dragonbone, which is harder than diamond.

In other news, 6 followers were killed by a norlac, an octopus like monster that normally makes its abode in underground bodies of water, but can be found in any body of water of sufficient size. It isn't huge like a kraken, if its tentacles are fully extended they are only about 10 feet long, and there are only 8 of them, its head about the size of two barrels.

Bonuses: Fire Touch, Immortality

Fire touch - unarmed attacks do fire damage, weaponry heats up gradually while being held and used.
Immortality - Your soul is connected to something extra-material and elemental. You are effectively immortal, though you can be killed by violence or magic.

Bold Shit - 13 bolds, 26 bold swords, 15 days worth of food, 14 days worth of water, 15 beds, 17 rooms, 15 dwarf statues, 3 elf statues, 2 forges, 1 glassmaker's workshop, 1 soaper's workshop, and two feast halls.[/quote]

1-2. Failure. The giant tree had protectors, numerous hill giants, all of which are armed with huge stone improvised weapons, huge clubs, and are wearing wood and leather armor. There are 16 of them and 1 of you. They don't speak your language, but they also don't attack, they simply block your path. Its obvious to you that if you move forward you will have to fight them.

3. While scavenging in the caves, a kobold named Weyland Yutani found a secret door by chance. When Weyland went through it without really checking it a one-use trap triggered and instantly killed him with a projectile spear (which may be harvested from his body and retained). Inside the room are 24 candles sitting on a stone table, a single block of bedrock, 5 copper daggers, 3 lockpicks, 1 diamond mattock, 1 iron helmet of intelligence (enchanted), and 1 half-barrel of coal.

You scared her alright. Scared her so much she threw the urn, which broke on your head, and ran away screaming. Its not until you sputter awake and spew water out your mouth that they realize just who and what you are. One of the greedy mortals grabs your amulet and tears it off. "I demand a wish! In payment for saving your life!"

"Yeah...not happening. Doucheface."
1-2 Quickly, Io churned a spiral of scalding hot water at the greedy thief's face. As he or she recoiled in pain, he would quickly snatch his amulet and run across the river giggling like mad.

3 Io sighed again. "Bored. Again."

3. You manage to pull this off, but there are some problems. Firstly, your skin is still blue, secondly, your hair turned green instead of white, and thirdly, your teeth didn't change. Still, its better than being obvious like you were. If you cover yourself properly and move only by night theres a good chance you can infiltrate the city. Where to find suitable attire? There are definitely farms and homes outside the main city that you can detect with your magical senses.

As yet the hives are simply large rooms with no furnishings or features. While no metals are found, a small amount of emeralds is found in one of the freshly dug rooms. There are about 16 individual gems, all rough and unshaped. In addition, stone suited to being made into simple swords, mattocks, and axes is found, these objects being created. 14 stone swords, 12 stone mattocks, and 8 stone axes.

2. The only light anywhere in the land of death comes from huge bonfires which are the size of mountains. The ground is sandy, ashen, and either hot, or cold. Hot near the mountain sized bonfires and cold everywhere else. A slow continuous cool wind circulates. "forests" of bone structures that resemble trees bear greenish, sickly fruit, which zombies leaking blood and puss everywhere guard. A large, ice-shelf'd lake is the only source of water the grell were able to find, skeletons moving around in it looking for swimmers or drinkers. The scouts are attacked with little warning by a cloud (12) of wraiths, the cloud swarming out of a smoke drift from the bonfires, the grell fleeing them and returning to the underdark, the wraiths not following.

The object you withdrew from the fire is an axe of flames, a weapon you have no training in. You could disenchant it to learn its enchantment, but that would destroy it by rendering it into dust. The axe of flames sweats tiny flakes of burning wood when its swung, but only while being actively swung.

A strong wind blows through, pollen, fungus, and light seeds entering the area, already starting to grow, though not visibly to the naked eye. The pollens and fungus will be growing visibly to the naked eye in the not very distant future, however, as fungus eats dead things. Perhaps by 8 to 12 hours from now the fungus will be slightly visible to the eye as growth.

You find a small river and a cluster of willow trees. The stream you know as Diorydudwath, or 'The tears of lady Diory'. Diory was an elf who fell in love with a human king. In the ancient time, when there was a single dark lord who ruled all evil forces, her lover went to fight Fafnir the deadly, and, seeking a means of sowing discord, the dark lord sent a false message telling of a rout. She rushed out to the cliff near her home and threw herself over the waterfall that is the source of Diorydudwath. Despite the rivers sad history, it is a calm, safe area.

1. I have no need of an axe. Disenchant it to learn its secrets.

2. 3. As I gaze upon the waters and think of things that have passed and things yet to come I realize something. It is not just my Black Wood who has been destroyed by these things. I know this from tales of my sisters. I also know I cannot deal with entire races of man by myself.

My sisters, and those who worship nature and all like them. They will help me. They must.

Over the long months that pass I travel from grove, to lake. From deep cavern and placid brook. Each time I approach those I sense live within and tell them of my plans. I tell them where I will meet them in a years time. When I return to the ruins of Black Wood Forest and Doe's Run it shall be not as a sole nymph with passion and vengeance. Not even as a rampaging army. No.

When I return to my home, it shall be the beginning of a nation. A nation dedicated to returning this world from Man and all his ilk to where it belongs.
